A Few Weeks to Go

This blog will officially be a year old in a few weeks.

When I started this blog, my goal was to see if I could make a post every day for a year. So far, I’ve not yet missed a day. Sometimes I’ve had to queue up multiple posts go up on a schedule, but I’ve never had a gap. The only times when a post failed to go up on its scheduled day, it was due to technical issues. Those were somewhat annoying and embarrassing, I admit. I have everything working pretty well at this point, though.

Right now, I’m considering making a small modification to the plugin I use for Facebook posting. It’s supposed to use the post excerpt as the intro text for the post, but instead it just grabs the first so many words and sticks them into the Facebook post. I hate it when posts are cut off mid-sentence like that. The Jetpack “publicize” feature worked better. At least, it presented the text in such a way that the cutoff made more sense, ending with an ellipsis and “[ #### more word ]“. Would’ve been nice if it said “words” at the end, though. I feel like this is what I’m always dealing with: things that work, but don’t quite work as well as they should.

I’m tempted to make a small modification to the social plugin I’m using now, to have it detect where I insert the “Read More” tag and then use everything prior to that as the post excerpt. Really, that seems like an obvious thing to do and I’m not sure why it doesn’t do that by default.

There’s not a whole lot else to report around here. Featured images still don’t set automatically, and I’ve forgotten to fix them a couple times. I still need to do the recategorization at some point. I never did get a logo in place–seems almost pointless now, right? There are dozens of topics in my queue which I may or may not ever get to. Honestly, many of them were larks that I was briefly interested in pursuing but probably never will. Or I’ll stop worrying about having enough meat in any subject to get a 1000-1500 word post out of it and just post whatever it takes to address that topic.

Look at me, rambling away. All I really need to say here is: have a great week!
