Link Roundup: February 6, 2016

It’s dangerous to Internet alone. Take these.

Tech

  * [Event technology: will this define success in 2016?](http://www.losberger.co.uk/event-technology-will-define-success-2016/) -- As someone who goes to conventions and the like, I'm always interested in the state of technology for managing events and communicating with attendees. Some interesting statistics and information here.
  * [Here's an update on the total disaster that is the F-35](http://www.businessinsider.com.au/f-35-setback-2016-2) -- Given the technical orientation of the report, I'll put this here. Basically, the F-35 is a trillion dollar flying bomb on which almost nothing works. Great job, everyone. Wonderful use of taxpayer money.

Politics

  * [This sad video perfectly sums up how Jeb Bush's campaign has gone](http://www.vox.com/2016/1/28/10865564/jeb-bush-mission-accomplished) -- It's not the "please clap" one, but one that appeared before the Iowa caucuses. "Expectations are so low." That they are, Jeb! Even lower now.
  * [Richard Nixon on twitter is exactly what we need today](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2015/07/29/if-richard-nixon-were-alive-today-this-is-how-he-would-tweet/) -- Pretty funny, at least if one can get past what a horrible person Nixon was.
  * [Should millennials get over Bernie Sanders?](http://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/should-millennials-get-over-bernie-sanders) -- Alexandra Schwartz says "yes."
  * [Bernie and the millennials](https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/02/bernie-sanders-democratic-presidential-primary-young-people-millenials/) -- Corey Robin has some harsh words for Schwartz regarding the above piece. Personally, I think Robin is too busy taking cheap shots to make a cogent point.
  * [Henry Kissinger, Hillary Clinton's tutor in war and peace](http://www.thenation.com/article/henry-kissinger-hillary-clintons-tutor-in-war-and-peace/) -- Kissinger is a monstrous human being and I wish _all_ American politicians would stop paying attention to him. That he heavily influences Clinton's foreign policy mindset is troubling, to say the least.
  * [No, Hillary Clinton did not win Iowa because of a coin flip](http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/02/politics/hillary-clinton-coin-flip-iowa-bernie-sanders/) -- The story that she did got around _a lot_, but it's not true. Also, she and Sanders came away with the same number of delegates, so it's technically a tie.
  * [Dissatisfaction, anger dominate year-end reviews of Washington](http://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/29/politics/cnn-orc-poll-views-of-government/) -- The attitudes Americans hold toward our government can be summed up as "white rage."
  * [America's agitator: Donald Trump is the world's most dangerous man](http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/donald-trump-is-the-most-dangerous-man-in-the-world-a-1075060.html) -- A German perspective on the Republican frontrunner.
  * [Bernie Sanders has appeared in not one, but two low-budget rom-coms](http://www.avclub.com/article/who-knew-bernie-sanders-had-career-low-budget-rom--231777) -- This is funny as hell to me.
  * [Albright: "special place in hell" for women who don't support Clinton](http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/feb/06/madeleine-albright-campaigns-for-hillary-clinton) -- Yeah, so, I guess there is a bit of a generation gap among Clinton supporters.
  * [Feminist Gloria Steinem says young women support Bernie Sanders because they want attention from boys](https://newrepublic.com/minutes/129335/feminist-gloria-steinem-says-young-women-support-bernie-want-attention-boys) -- You really can't make this up.

Social Justice

  * [Packed school board meeting after transgender restroom decision](http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20160202/article/160209895?tc=ar) -- A school decides to do the right thing and allow transgender students to use their preferred restroom. Naturally, this brings bigoted cranks _from several other counties_ to show up in protest. Ugh.
  * [A Minnesota elementary school just banned all holiday celebrations](http://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/family/a-minnesota-elementary-school-just-banned-all-holiday-celebrations/ar-BBp8u9u?fb_action_ids=827361384056143&fb_action_types=og.comments) -- Reactions to this are generally negative, but given that few of the students in this school would normally celebrate any of the holidays noted, I don't think it's a big deal. The school's approach--to find more inclusive ways to celebrate various holidays from different cultures--sounds like a good way to go.

Gaming

  * [At world's end](http://leighalexander.net/at-worlds-end/) -- Leigh Alexander bids goodbye to full-time video game culture writing. I wish her the best!
  * [YouTube personalities use Minecraft to prey on underage fans](http://motherboard.vice.com/read/youtube-celebrities-uses-minecraft-to-prey-on-underage-fans) -- Gross.

Economics

  * [Goldman Sachs says it may be forced to fundamentally question how capitalism is working](http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-02-03/goldman-sachs-says-it-may-be-forced-to-fundamentally-question-how-capitalism-is-working) -- ...because right now it's _too_ profitable, and causing inequality that will eventually cause massive instability in the economic system.

Journalism

  * [Reporter fabricated quotes, invented sources at _The Intercept_](http://gawker.com/reporter-fabricated-quotes-invented-sources-at-the-int-1756672849?utm_campaign=socialflow_gawker_twitter&utm_source=gawker_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow) -- A truly bizarre story.
